Victor Antipin: Signs with Metallurg
Antipin finalized the terms of a three-year contract with Magnitogorsk Metallurg (KHL) on Monday.
After initial reports Antipin would link up with a KHL club, there was some thought he might stay in the NHL with another team after not receiving a qualifying offer from the Sabres. However, the Russian will return to his homeland rather than bounce around an NHL team's system, where he would likely have split time between the AHL and NHL.

Victor Antipin: Not in Buffalo's plans
The Sabres will not be extending a qualifying offer to Antipin, who spent one season with the team, Mike Harrington of The Buffalo News reports.
Antipin, who failed to score a goal while posting a minus-9 rating in 47 games in 2017-18, was reportedly heading back to play in Russia but general manager Jason Botterill implied the defenseman might first be looking for another opportunity in North America. The Sabres loaded up on blueliners in this weekend's draft -- highlighted by Rasmus Dahlin -- so the writing was on the wall for Antipin even had he wanted to stay in Buffalo.

Sabres' Victor Antipin: Returns to Russia
Antipin will return to the KHL next season, TSN reports.
Antipin's one-year foray in the NHL went poorly, as he played just 47 games and scored 10 points, all of which were assists. Used primarily as a third-pairing defenseman, Antipin averaged a little over 15 minutes per game and often sat out as a healthy scratch. He also missed the final four games of the season due to a concussion. Antipin's departure opens up a potential spot on the Buffalo blue line, and the Sabres are expected to fill that opening by taking Swedish rearguard Rasmus Dahlin with the No. 1 pick in the upcoming draft.

Sabres' Victor Antipin: Could return to Russia
Antipin (concussion) is uncertain whether he will remain in the NHL or head back to the KHL next season, John Vogl of The Buffalo News reports.
Antipin also told reporters he had recovered quickly from his concussion, so he should be ready to begin his offseason program. The blueliner may just be positioning himself for offseason contract negotiations, as he will be a restricted free agent and could be using a KHL return as a bargaining chip.

Antipin was diagnosed with a concussion as well as a broken nose and dental injuries after a collision with Nashville's Scott Hartnell on Saturday.
Just by the details of the injuries, it sounds like Antipin will miss Buffalo's last four games of the regular season. At this point, there wouldn't be much of a reason to send him out there again and risk re-injury. The 25-year-old dished out 10 assists in 47 games this year as a rookie.

Sabres' Victor Antipin: Stretchered off ice
Antipin was stretchered off the ice Saturday after a collision with Scott Hartnell, Brooks Bratten of the Predators' official site reports.
During the play, Antipin's upper body was sent crashing into the boards, and he immediately dropped to the ice and had to be tended to by the medical staff. Antipin's status should be updated before Monday's game against Toronto, although he's presumably doubtful for the tilt. Josh Gorges or Nathan Beaulieu figure to draw into the lineup if he remains sidelined.

Antipin will not play Monday against Nashville, The Buffalo News reports.
Antipin will sit out as a healthy scratch, meaning Casey Nelson will be in the lineup. Antipin's assist Saturday against Chicago wasn't enough to keep him on the ice, as Phil Housley has elected to go with a more mobile defense against a fast Nashville squad. Antipin has appeared in 44 games this season and registered 10 assists, and with just 39 blocked shots, is not an ideal fit with the young and relatively inexperienced Linus Ullmark between the pipes.

Sabres' Victor Antipin: Logs season-high ice time
Antipin played 19:44 on Wednesday against the Lightning.
Following a two-assist effort against the Bruins on Sunday, Antipin was rewarded with nearly 20 minutes of ice time in a 2-1 win against the Lightning. The Russian import was in the doghouse earlier this season and has been in and out of the lineup, but over his past four games he's fared much better, even seeing some ice time on the power play. He's notched eight assists in 39 games this season after signing a one-year deal over the summer. His long-term future with the term is still to be determined, but continued improvement will improve his odds of getting re-signed.

Sabres' Victor Antipin: Healthy scratched Tuesday
Antipin did not play Tuesday against the Ducks, sitting out as a healthy scratch.
The Russian rookie skated more than 18 minutes against Edmonton and Vancouver when he was inserted into the lineup in late January, but played less than 16 minutes in each of his three subsequent games. Phil Housley was not happy with Antipin's consistency, and elected to dress the more physical Justin Falk against a tough Ducks squad. Through 29 games this season Antipin has registered five assists and drawn mixed reviews. Housley's lineup juggling has seen Antipin on the outside looking in more often than not, and that will likely to be the case for the rest of the season unless the Sabres move bodies at the trade deadline.

Antipin will replace Nathan Beaulieu (undisclosed) for Tuesday's game against the Oilers, Derek Van Diest of NHL.com reports.
Antipin was lifted from injured reserve Jan. 17 after dealing with an illness, but he was still a healthy scratch for the next three games. The rookie has slotted into 24 games, accruing four assists while playing respectable power-play minutes.
