Avalanche's Mikhail Gulyayev: Extends with KHL team
Rotowire
Gulyayev signed a two-year extension with Avangard Omsk of the KHL on Friday, Evan Rawal of the Denver Gazette reports.
Gulyayev's new deal would keep him in the KHL through the end of the 2027-28 campaign, at which point he would be 23 years old. Rawal notes the defenseman has little interest in developing in the AHL, so this may be the next best path for him to continue to grow. Fantasy managers in dynasty formats will have to wait two more years to see if he'll be able to help the Avalanche down the line.

Avalanche's Mikhail Gulyayev: Two points in KHL playoff win
Rotowire
Gulyayev scored a goal and added an assist in Avangard Omsk's 3-2 overtime win over CSKA Moscow in Game 3 of their second-round KHL playoff series Sunday.
With the two-point effort, Gulyayev now has four points over eight playoff outings, surpassing his three points from 54 regular-season games. His scoring has never really taken shape in the KHL, and it remains to be seen if the 20-year-old will come over to North America for 2026-27. Gulyayev and Avangard are up 3-0 in the series against CSKA, so any decision on the blueliner's future is likely still a few weeks away.

Avalanche's Mikhail Gulyayev: Treading water in KHL
Rotowire
Gulyayev has logged six goals, eight helpers, six PIM, 70 shots on goal and a minus-2 rating over 55 games with KHL Omsk in 2024-25.
Gulyayev, the No. 31 overall selection by Colorado in the 2023 NHL Entry Draft, is playing in his third KHL season. His contract with Omsk doesn't expire until after the 2025-26 campaign. The 19-year-old blueliner's progression has been questionable at best -- his 15:53 of average ice time in 2024-25 is a marginal increase from the 15:38 he received in 2023-24. His development will be of keen interest to the Avalanche -- the club does not possess a deep prospect pool. Gulyayev shouldn't be expected to transition to the NHL until at least 2026-27.
