The 21-year-old is one of the hottest snipers in the NHL right now, finding the back of the net six times as part of a five-game point streak. Michkov notched at least 20 goals in each of his first two seasons for Philly, but he appears headed for a breakout campaign with eight goals and 10 points in the first 13 contests of 2026-27.

After firing home a rebound midway through the first period, Michkov produced a beauty in the second, keeping control of the puck and circling the entire Colorado zone before launching a long-range shot that deflected off a defender's stick on its way past Mackenzie Blackwood. Michkov and Trevor Zegras could be paired together during training camp to see if the duo can develop some chemistry, Kevin Kurz of The Athletic reports Monday.
In his sophomore campaign, Michkov notched 20 goals and 31 assists in 81 regular-season games, including 12 power-play points. Those numbers were slightly below the 63 points he put up in 2024-25. If the 21-year-old winger can find his stride alongside Zegras, it's possible Michikov could set new personal bests this year, including topping the 30-goal threshold for the first time.

Flyers' Matvei Michkov: Bounces back Wednesday
Michkov registered an assist in Philadelphia's 1-0 overtime victory over Pittsburgh in Game 6 on Wednesday.
Michkov's helper was the primary assist on Cam York's marker at 17:32 of the overtime period. The 21-year-old Michkov also had three shots in 17:26 of ice time. It was a nice way for him to reassert his value after Philadelphia made him a healthy scratch for Tuesday's 3-2 loss to Pittsburgh. Even before being scratched, Michkov had received minimal work in the playoffs, averaging just 10:05 of ice time across the Flyers' opening four games. In contrast, Michkov had 20 goals and 51 points while averaging 14:50 in 81 regular-season appearances in 2025-26. Perhaps his role in Philadelphia's series-winning goal Wednesday will lead to Michkov getting steadier work in the second round against Carolina.

Michkov's goal in the second period stood as the winner. He grabbed a loose puck in front of the Montreal crease and whipped it with Jakub Dobes out of position. Michkov closed the season with goals in three consecutive games (three goals, three assists). He finished the regular season with 51 points following a serious post-Olympics run. Michkov led the Flyers with 22 points, including seven goals, in 26 outings since the Games. Prior to that, he had 29 points (13 goals, 16 assists) in 55 games.
