Blue Jackets' Dmitri Voronkov: Surgery not needed
Per Jeff Svoboda of the Blue Jackets' official site, Voronkov (upper body) will not require surgery, general manager Don Waddell said Thursday.
Voronkov is expected to return by the end of November, according to Waddell. Voronkov was injured a week ago in a preseason game against the Penguins. He had 18 goals, 16 assists, 52 PIM and 83 hits in 75 regular-season appearances in 2023-24 for the Blue Jackets.

Blue Jackets' Dmitri Voronkov: On injured reserve
Voronkov (upper body) was placed on injured reserve by Columbus on Friday, per Aaron Portzline of The Athletic.
Voronkov will miss a considerable amount of time, according to Portzline's sources, but there's no official timetable for the 24-year-old forward's return. He had 18 goals, 34 points, 52 PIM and 83 hits in 75 contests with the Blue Jackets in 2023-24. When healthy, Voronkov will likely serve in a middle-six capacity. His absence might lead to James Malatesta, who was projected to begin the season in the minors, play for Columbus in its season opener against Minnesota on Thursday.

Voronkov sustained an upper-body injury and won't return to Thursday's preseason game versus the Penguins.
Voronkov was injured on his first shift of the game. The 24-year-old figures to be an important part of the Blue Jackets' forward group this season. That said, he may be held out of Friday's preseason rematch with the Penguins even if his injury is minor.

Voronkov is under the weather and will miss the season finale against Carolina on Tuesday, Aaron Portzline of The Athletic reports.
Voronkov is expected to be replaced by Luca Del Bel Belluz, who is being recalled from AHL Cleveland. With Voronkov's absence, he will end his rookie season having notched 18 goals and 16 assists, including eight power-play points, in 75 appearances.

Voronkov scored the game-winning goal in Thursday's 4-2 victory over the Oilers.
The rugged 23-year-old center gave Columbus a 3-0 lead late in the first period by intercepting a clearing attempt in the Edmonton zone and then snapping a shot past Calvin Pickard from the slot. Voronkov is now tied with Connor Bedard and Marco Rossi with 17 goals on the season, the most among rookies, and his 31 points through 57 games has him fifth among first-year players.

Voronkov scored a power-play goal in Friday's 2-1 loss to the Sabres.
The big rookie tapped home a Kirill Marchenko pass midway through the first period to give the Blue Jackets an early lead, but the team couldn't solve Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen the rest of the night. Voronkov hasn't recorded an assist since Jan. 2, but that doesn't mean the 23-year-old center has been unproductive -- he's racked up eight goals over the last 13 games, with three of them coming on the power play.

Voronkov has been pretty good at getting past goalies lately, scoring seven goals on 31 shots across his last 10 outings. He hasn't logged an assist since Jan. 2, but he doesn't have to be a playmaker if he can keep his finishing touch. The center is at 14 tallies, 27 points, 81 shots on net, 53 hits, 39 PIM and a plus-7 rating over 47 appearances.

Voronkov broke a scoreless tie early in the third period, beating Jordan Binnington with a goal off the rush that would stand as the game-winner in a 1-0 Columbus victory. The 23-year-old Voronkov has five goals in his last seven contests as he's moved into a top-six role. He's up to 12 goals and 25 points through 44 appearances in his rookie campaign.

Voronkov scored a power-play goal on three shots and added two hits in Thursday's 5-2 win over the Flames.
Voronkov cashed in on a major power play after Jonathan Huberdeau got the gate for boarding Jack Roslovic in the third period. This was Voronkov's fourth goal in the last four games, two of which have come on the power play. The 23-year-old center is holding down a bottom-six role, so the scoring surge isn't likely to last for long. He's at 11 goals, 24 points, 69 shots on net, 39 hits, 26 blocked shots, 27 PIM and a plus-5 rating through 41 outings in a strong rookie campaign so far.

Voronkov scored a goal on three shots and blocked three shots in Tuesday's 4-1 loss to the Oilers.
Voronkov tied the contest at 1-1, burying a feed from Kent Johnson in the first period. The tally was Voronkov's third in the last three games, though that's all of his offense across the last seven appearances. Overall, the 23-year-old center has 10 tallies, 23 points, 66 shots on net, 37 hits, 26 blocked shots, 27 PIM and a plus-5 rating through his first 40 NHL outings.
