Ehn did not receive a qualifying offer from the Red Wings and will become a UFA on Friday, Ansar Khan of MLive.com reports.
Ehn has appeared in 114 NHL games over two seasons with the Red Wings, but the Swede has a mere 13 points in that span. The 24-year-old forward may have to settle for a minor-league contract, as he hasn't produced consistently at the NHL level.

In those appearances, the center failed to register a point and added a mere seven shots, 21 hits and six blocks. Whether Ehn gets into the game versus Columbus on Thursday will depend on the health of Darren Helm (lower body) who was injured in Tuesday's clash with Ottawa.

While not a household name, Ehn is playing with a lot of heart and determination in his first NHL season. He is plus-2 on a team with a minus-29 goal differential, and his checking role enables him to primarily focus on disrupting the offensive flow created by the opposition. Still, there is probably very little fantasy interest in Ehn since he has averaged under 10 minutes of ice time (9:48) and requires maximum efficiency in order to sneak his way onto the scoresheet.

Ehn, a rookie, has started a whopping 63.4 percent of his 5-on-5 shifts in the defensive zone.
Ehn's heavy defensive role severely limits his fantasy prospects, as does the fact that he's only averaging 9:34 of ice time. Still, the Swedish skater earned the right to open the season with the Red Wings, and he's gaining valuable experience on the penalty kill for a proud franchise that wants to be taken seriously despite its poor record of 18-25-7.

Detroit scored three unanswered goals in an all-rookie barrage, with Ehn going top shelf after he mowed down defenseman Travis Dermott in the neutral zone. The Red Wings appreciate Ehn's penalty-killing acumen, but it's understandable that very few people are keying in on the Swede in fantasy leagues since he's averaging less than 10 minutes of ice time per contest.

Ehn set up defenseman Dennis Cholowski's short-side tally in Monday's 3-1 home win over the Kings.
The Kings had three skaters committed to Ehn as he weaved out of the neutral zone on an odd-man rush, and that caused the visitors to lose sight of Cholowski, who accepted Ehn's pass and went top shelf over the shoulder of Jonathan Quick. Best known as a solid line defender, Ehn only has two points through 16 games, so he can safely be ignored in all fantasy hockey formats.
