Hockey Club's Sean Durzi: Will be out long-term
Durzi (upper body) is expected to require surgery to address his injury, which will keep him out of action for 4-5 months, Cole Bagley of KSL Sports reports.
Durzi will likely be sidelined until after the 4 Nations Face-Off in mid-February. This is a massive blow to Utah's blue line, especially since John Marino (upper body) is also absent on a week-to-week basis. Michael Kesselring took over Durzi's top-pairing role Wednesday versus the Ducks, while Juuso Valimaki is poised for more power-play time.

Durzi (upper body) has been designated for injured reserve Thursday, per the NHL media site.
Durzi's IR placement shouldn't come as a surprise considering he is out indefinitely due to his upper-body injury. With John Marino (upper body) also sidelined and Robert Bortuzzo (undisclosed) getting hurt against the Ducks on Wednesday, the Utah blue line is getting rather thin. Durzi (upper body) is expected to be sidelined indefinitely according to general manager Bill Armstrong on Tuesday, per Scott Garrard of KSL Sports Zone.
Durzi's absence will compound an already thin blue line that is still missing John Marino (upper body). Through the first four games of the season, Durzi was averaging the second most ice time (21:28) behind only Mikhail Sergachev. Without Durzi in the lineup, Michael Kesselring and Juuso Valimaki figure to see significant upticks in ice time. Don't be surprised to see Durzi designated for long-term injured reserve in the next few days.

Durzi (upper body) won't return to Monday's contest against New Jersey.
Durzi had one shot on net in 9:09 of ice time before his exit. He entered Monday's matinee matchup with two assists, seven PIM, two shots on goal, 11 blocked shots and two hits in three outings. If Durzi can't play Wednesday versus Anaheim, Robert Bortuzzo could make his Utah debut.

Durzi fought Connor Murphy in the second period and then added a helper on Dylan Guenther's empty-netter in the third. The presence of Mikhail Sergachev, acquired from the Lightning over the offseason, will likely decrease Durzi's power-play role in 2024-25. He will still play top-four minutes at even strength, so his offense shouldn't take too much of a hit. The 25-year-old will also carry decent fantasy value in formats that reward blocked shots and PIM.

Utah put Durzi and Mikhail Sergachev together at even strength, a preview for what could be the team's top pairing come Opening Night. Durzi was also able to capitalize on a power play late in the second period. Durzi and Sergachev are in competition for power-play duties, and whoever lands on the first unit is likely to have the better fantasy value. With Arizona last season, Durzi put up a career-high 41 points, including 16 on the power play, but his offense could take a hit if he slips to the second unit.

Sean Durzi: Lands four-year extension
Durzi signed a four-year, $6 million AAV extension with Utah on Sunday, Chris Johnston of The Athletic reports.
Durzi averaged 22:43 of ice time and scored 41 points with nine goals last season as Arizona's workhorse. He should be established on the top pair alongside the newly acquired Mikhail Sergachev during Utah's inaugural season. Durzi could see his power-play time diminish after averaging 3:16 of ice time during the man advantage last season. The 25-year-old blocked 160 shots and racked up 63 PIM across 76 games.

Durzi scored what is likely to be the final tally of the Coyotes' history when he put the game away with his empty-netter at 15:45 of the third period. He had nine goals, matching his career-best total from last season, as well as a career-high 41 points, 142 shots on net, 160 blocked shots and 63 PIM over 76 outings in 2023-24.
