The United States added to its nation-leading medal count on Tuesday morning in the 2016 Rio Olympics as triple jumpers Christian Taylor and Will Claye finished first and second, respectively.

Taylor (17.86) edged teammate Claye (17.76) for gold in a second consecutive Olympics, making him the first American to go back-to-back since Meyer Prinstein in 1900 and 1904. Bin Dong took bronze with a distance of 17.58 for China's first triple jump medal.

Taylor and Claye were teammates at the University of Florida, making the accomplishment even sweeter.

"To do this with my brother, it's a dream come true," Taylor said to NBC's Lewis Johnson.

Claye didn't earn gold but still came out a winner after his girlfriend, U.S. hurdler Queen Harrison, accepted his proposal.

"I just knew today was going to be the best day of my life," Claye said to NBC.

Taylor (17.24) and Claye (17.05) finished first and third in the qualifications round to advance for the finals.

Taylor captured gold (17.81) and Claye placed second (17.62) at the 2012 London Games.
