Michael Phelps hopes to add to his record 22 Olympic medals (18 gold) this summer at the 2016 Rio Olympics.

On Sunday, he took another important step towards his goal -- he completed his 18-month probation.

According to The Washington Post, the 30-year-old swimmer has officially finished his year-and-a-half probation following a DUI arrest in September of 2014.

It was his second DUI offense, the first coming in 2004, for which he also received 18 months probation. Phelps spent 45 days out of his most recent probation period in a rehab facility.

The swimming legend came out of retirement in 2014 to train for the Rio 2016 Olympics, but received a six-month suspension from USA Swimming following his DUI which prevented him from participating in the 2015 world championships.

He returned to compete in the U.S. national championships, where he set three world-best times for the year.

In Rio Phelps is expected to compete in all three relays, both the 100 and 200 butterflies and the 200 individual medley.
