The Champions League's third matchday ends on Wednesday with 28 goals in eight matches, highlighted by the monster Barcelona vs. Manchester City clash, and resulted in a fun, action-filled day of games. Here's everything you need to know.

What to know from Wednesday's games:

Barcelona makes huge statement

Looked at as the match of the group stage, Pep Guardiola's return to Barcelona didn't go as he had hoped. Lionel Messi was in fifth gear, scoring a hat trick in the 4-0 win. It was a nightmare game for the English club, who was able to find a couple looks in attack but couldn't finish. And as a result, off Messi's three goals and a fine showing overall, Barcelona is actually who we thought they were -- the top contender in this tournament.

Arsenal on fire

A Mesut Ozil hat trick and a stellar performance from the entire starting XI saw Arsenal beat Ludogorets 6-0. Ozil became just the fifth Gunner ever to score three in a UCL game, and that win sees the Gunners in a perfect spot to advance, which is a relief for fans after such a wild group stage last year. Arsenal has a six-point cushion, along with PSG (3-0 winners over Basel), over Ludogorets and Basel, with nine points up for grabs. One more win, and Arsenal is pretty much through.

Bayern continues streak

Bayern Munich played in the Champions League at home, and Bayern Munich won. That always seems to be the case. A 4-1 win over PSV saw the Bavarian giants extend its UCL record of home victories to 14 games. Bayern is pretty much into the round of 16, as well is Atletico, with their wins on Wednesday.
