Spanish prosecutor files lawsuit saying Ronaldo committed $16.4 million tax fraud
The heat is picking up a little on Ronaldo
A lawsuit was filed in Madrid on Tuesday by Spain's prosecutors office, alleging that Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo committed tax fraud in the amount of $16.4 million between 2011-2014, according to Marca.
The report says that the prosecutor's office said in a statement that the forward "knowingly used a business structure created in 2010 to allegedly hide his image rights income in Spain."
This implies a voluntary failure to comply with tax laws, with a total of four counts of tax fraud alleged. In May it was reported that Ronaldo was potentially facing a five-year prison sentence as a result.
The expectation is still for him not to get any prison time, more likely a heavy fine like we've seen with Barcelona's Lionel Messi.
Ronaldo is currently in Portugal with his national team.
