4-star Auburn pledge opens up recruitment in wake of FBI charges of Chuck Person
Could be the first of many dominoes to fall in wake of FBI investigation and arrests handed down Tuesday
In the wake of the FBI probe that saw top Auburn associate head coach Chuck Person, among others, charged and arrested with federal crimes on Tuesday, four-star power forward and long-time Auburn pledge E.J. Montgomery has backed away from his year-long commitment to the Tigers.
"We are going to open EJ's recruitment back up," Montgomery's father told Scout.com. "He hasn't really gone through the process of being recruited and he wants to experience that."
Montgomery is ranked as the No. 25 player in the Class of 2018, and the No. 7 player at his position. He committed to Auburn early in the process in September of 2016, but has listed offers from Baylor, Florida State, Miami, NC State and UCLA.
Auburn associate coach Chuck Person is accused of accepting payments from an agent who was trying to development a business relationship with some of Auburn's players, including sophomore Austin Wiley. The school suspended Person without pay Tuesday afternoon and his status with the program moving forward has yet to be determined.
