When it was over, after 45 minutes of basketball late Thursday, UCLA coach Mick Cronin was understandably upset. He was disappointed that his Bruins had a terrible practice a day earlier. He was incensed that Oregon, from his perspective, was the more focused and motivated team.

"You're either humbled and hungry like [Oregon was] trying to pull the so-called upset," Cronin said, "or you're arrogant without cause because we've won nothing."

Final score: Oregon 84, UCLA 81.

Yes, Oregon won at Pauley Pavilion in overtime despite closing as a 10-point underdog. And because the Ducks have struggled so much this season that they still rank outside of the top 75 of the NET, the loss currently qualifies as a Quadrant 3 loss for the Bruins, who have beaten Villanova at home and won at Marquette but, to Cronin's point, done little else of note this season. They're now 4-1 in the first two quadrants with one additional loss coming in Quadrant 3. Consequently, I've dropped UCLA to 16th in Friday morning's updated CBS Sports Top 25 And 1 daily college basketball rankings. It's a big drop, sure. But it should be noted that UCLA is now one of only two schools in the Top 25 And 1 with a Quadrant 3 loss on its resume.

The other is Duke.

The good news for UCLA is that Oregon has won four straight and is obviously playing better than the version of itself that started 6-6 with losses to Arizona State and Stanford -- point being the Ducks likely will crack the top 75 of the NET soon, which would turn that Quadrant 3 loss into a Quadrant 2 loss for UCLA. But, for now, the loss to Oregon is a Quadrant 3 loss and one that, for what it's worth, also dropped the Bruins out of the top 10 of every reputable computer ranking.
