Missouri State guard Marcus Marshall -- the Missouri Valley Conference's second-leading scorer -- has decided to transfer from the university, the school announced Friday in a press release.

Missouri State University head coach Paul Lusk announced Friday that junior guard Marcus Marshall (St. Paul, Minn.) has asked for his release and will seek a transfer at the end of the current academic semester.

Marshall was suspended on Wednesday for what Lusk termed conduct detrimental to the team. He noted that Marshall’s decision came this afternoon.

“Marcus is a good kid who is trying to find his way, and we wish him the best,” Lusk said. “This is a mutual decision that will be the best thing moving forward for our program and for him.”

Lusk also noted that Marshall plans to finish out the current semester at Missouri State and will likely transfer in May.

Marshall had been averaging 19.5 points per game this season for the Bears, and was largely the centerpiece of their offensive attack. He will likely be a highly coveted transfer this offseason, especially if he is on course to graduate in May (although there is no indication as to whether that is the case).
