Early in the first episode of “Back in Berkeley: Training Camp with Cal Football,” Bears coach Jeff Tedford’s voice-over warns players that camp “may not be something you’re used to.”

We’re not sure if he was talking about the long, hard practices or the daily scene in tree-hugging, hippie-heavy Berkeley.

The show is produced by Cal Bears Productions, the in-house video production group of Cal Athletics' Creative Services unit. You can view it at calbears.com or youtube.com/calathletics.

To be frank, it views more like a promotional video for the program than it does a behind-the-scenes look.

Day 1 details such exciting moments as player physicals, equipment checks and newcomer meetings. There’s lots of time-lapse footage and shots of Cal’s facilities including some great closing shots of renovated Memorial Stadium. But this is nothing like HBO’s famed series “Hard Knocks.” There’s no Chad Ochocinco awkwardly crashing private coaches meetings and casually dropping F-bombs in press conferences. And there’s no Rex Ryan.

This is more like Soft Knocks. The show documents the team’s 2012 training camp and provides exclusive, if bland interviews with players, coaches and staff. If you’re a Bears fan, you’ll probably still enjoy it.
