Garcia was optioned to Triple-A Memphis on Sunday, MLB.com reports.
Garcia was added to the 40-man roster in November in an effort to protect him from Rule 5 eligibility, as he wasn't expected to make the Opening Day roster this season. The Cardinals have a strong mix of veterans and young up-and-comers in their outfield in 2016, so barring any injuries, the 24-year-old Garcia will likely spend the majority of the season developing in the minors.
