After getting roughed up by the Mariners in his first start Sunday, Matusz was designated for assignment by the Cubs on Monday, Carrie Muskat of MLB.com reports.
Matusz will now go through the waiver process. If he goes unclaimed, the Cubs will outright him to Triple-A Iowa. In the minors in 2016, Matusz owns a 3.58 ERA with 39 strikeouts over 27.2 innings split between the Orioles and Cubs organizations.
