Stubbs exercised the opt-out clause in his contract Sunday and will officially become a free agent, Mike Berardino of the St. Paul Pioneer Pioneer Press reports.

After being informed that he wouldn't be making the Twins' 25-man roster, Stubbs will explore opportunities elsewhere. Stubbs shouldn't have trouble landing a minor-league deal with another organization, but may have to prove himself at the Triple-A level before getting a call to the majors.
