Mets' Sam Clay: Sent back down

Clay was optioned to Triple-A Syracuse on Tuesday, Tim Healey of Newsday reports.

The left-hander was promoted by New York last week but will return to the minors to make room on the big-league roster for Jacob deGrom (shoulder), who was activated off the injured list to start Tuesday. Clay didn't make an appearance during his brief time up with the Mets.
