Jones signed with the Nationals on Thursday, Bobby Blanco of MASN Sports reports.
The high-school catcher was selected in the 15th round in the 2024 Draft, but the Nats thought enough of him to buy him out of a commitment to Oklahoma State with a $500,000 signing bonus -- an impressive $350,000 over slot, and an amount comparable to an early fifth-round pick. Jones has some impressive raw power and a strong throwing arm, but he'll need to work hard on his defense to stick behind the plate and avoid a shift to first base as he climbs the minor-league ladder.
