Pirates' Nik Turley: Removed from 40-man roster

Turley was designated for assignment by the Pirates on Tuesday.

Turley threw 21.2 innings of relief for the Pirates last season with mediocre results, posting a 4.98 ERA, a 21.7 percent strikeout rate and a 12.0 percent walk rate. The 31-year-old lefty may not be a particularly attractive option on the waiver wire. Troy Stokes was claimed off waivers in a corresponding move.
