McCarthy and the Rangers agreed Monday on a minor-league contract, Conor Foley of The Scranton Times-Tribune reports.

McCarthy's contract presumably includes an invitation to big-league spring training, though he shouldn't be viewed as a serious threat to break camp with the big club. After appearing in four games for the Giants in 2020, McCarthy played exclusively with San Francisco's Triple-A affiliate at Sacramento last season, slashing .305/.384/.542 with 15 home runs and four stolen bases across 315 plate appearances.
