The Rangers reassigned McCarthy to Triple-A Round Rock on Thursday.

McCarthy, who was attending big-league camp as a non-roster invitee, narrowly missed out on a spot on the Rangers' Opening Day roster. In a limited sample of 14 Cactus League at-bats, McCarthy went 8-for-14 with three home runs, two doubles and four walks against two strikeouts. While the huge power output wasn't enough for him to secure a reserve outfield role, McCarthy's big spring could put him in the mix for call-up early in the season if he continues to mash at Round Rock.
