The Rays placed Johnson on the 10-day injured list Tuesday with a sprained right shoulder.

Tampa Bay initially feared that Johnson might be dealing with structural damage to his shoulder after the right-hander experienced a cracking sensation during his appearance Sunday against the Orioles, but follow-up tests revealed that he was dealing with a sprain instead. The Rays haven't provided a timeline for Johnson's return to action, but the reliever will presumably need more than the minimum 10 days to recover from the injury. Louis Head was called up from Triple-A Durham to take Johnson's spot in the bullpen.
