Carpenter isn't in the Tigers' lineup Friday against the Rockies.
With left-hander Austin Gomber set to start on the mound for the Rockies, Carpenter will remain in Detroit's dugout to begin the game. Matt Vierling will start in right field, with Zach McKinstry in left, allowing Zack Short to start at second base and bat eighth.
