Tomas Nido: Cut loose by Mets

The Mets released Nido on Monday, Jorge Castillo of ESPN.com reports.

Nido cleared waivers after being designated for assignment last week and is now free to sign with another organization. The veteran catcher has a career .564 OPS over parts of eight major-league seasons but is viewed as a strong defender, so he could draw interest as a backup catcher elsewhere.
