The Twins designated Melotakis for assignment Friday.

The southpaw showed promise across 26 relief innings at Double-A Chattanooga with a 2.42 ERA, 31 strikeouts and only nine walks. Melotakis, 25, has displayed decent control to complement his often closer-like velocity, which can reach the mid-90s, but his velocity was down during his recent stint for Triple-A Rochester, according to Brandon Warne of ZoneCoverage.com. If Melotakis doesn't stick around and there's nothing physically wrong with him that's causing his dip in mph, perhaps another organization will want to take a chance on his upside.
