  • Alcala (3-6) allowed one run on two hits and a walk while striking out a batter over an inning as he took the loss against the Royals on Sunday. Alcala entered to pitch the eighth with the game knotted at three and allowed the Royals to grab the lead for good. The first two batters he faced reached base and one scored on a single to right by Kyle Isbel. It was the first run Acala has given up since returning from the injured list Aug. 27 and his first loss since July 27. The 25-year-old owns a 4.53 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 50:13 K:BB over 51.2 innings this year.

  • Alcala (biceps) was activated off the injured list Friday. Alcala had been out with biceps tendinitis since early August but is ready to go without making any rehab appearances. He struggled to a 5.11 ERA in 44 innings prior to the injury while allowing 10 homers, though his 1.09 WHIP provides reason for optimism if he can get the long balls under control.

  • Alcala (biceps) threw a bullpen session Saturday and could be activated from the injured list for this week's series in Boston, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports. His right biceps tendinitis was described as "mild," but it's still surprising he may not need a rehabilitation assignment. Even if he is sent to the minors, it sounds like he'll be activated from the injured list soon, barring a setback.

  • Alcala (biceps) played catch in the outfield Sunday, Phil Miller of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports. He's making progress, but there's not yet a timetable for Alcala's return. His right biceps tendinitis has at least been described as "mild," which suggests that Alcala should make it back from the 10-day injured list before the end of the season.

  • Alcala was placed on the 10-day injured list Monday with right biceps tendinitis, Dan Hayes of The Athletic reports. The 26-year-old allowed a solo homer and a walk while recording two strikeouts in one inning Sunday against the Astros, and he apparently suffered the injury during the contest. Alcala is without a timeline for his return and will be eligible to be reinstated Aug. 19.
