  • Royals' Michael Massey: Idle against southpaw

Massey is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Athletics.

After five consecutive starts, the left-handed-hitting Massey will retreat to the bench while southpaw Jeffrey Springs toes the rubber for the Athletics. Nick Loftin will step in for Massey at second base and bat leadoff.

  • Orioles' Jeremiah Jackson: Dispatched to Norfolk

The Orioles optioned Jackson to Triple-A Norfolk on Wednesday, Matt Weyrich of The Baltimore Sun reports.

He'll be moved off the active roster in order to free up a spot for the return of Samuel Basallo (shoulder) from the injured list. Jackson has gone just 1-for-29 at the plate since the All-Star break.

  • Ernie Clement 2B | TOR

Blue Jays' Ernie Clement: Taking seat Wednesday due to illness

Clement is absent from the lineup for Wednesday's game versus the Rays due to an illness, Arden Zwelling of Sportsnet.ca reports.

Clement picked up three hits in Tuesday's win over the Rays but then woke up Wednesday feeling under the weather. The Blue Jays will give Clement a day off as a result, paving the way for Josh Smith to start at second base. Consider Clement day-to-day.

  • Justin Foscue 2B | TEX

Rangers' Justin Foscue: Homers in win Tuesday

Foscue went 1-for-1 with a home run, a walk and two RBI in Tuesday's 5-0 win over the Nationals.

Foscue took Jackson Kent deep for a 400-foot solo homer in the second inning, giving him eight long balls on the season. He added another RBI in his next plate appearance, drawing a bases-loaded walk. The 27-year-old was replaced by Joc Pederson with a right-handed reliever on the mound in the fifth inning. Foscue was excellent before the All-Star break, slashing .286/.356/.908 across 46 games, but his production has fallen off considerably since then. He's hit just .191 with two extra-base hits, including Tuesday's homer, across 24 second-half contests.

  • Lenyn Sosa 2B | TOR

Blue Jays' Lenyn Sosa: Activated and outrighted

The Blue Jays activated Sosa (wrist) from the 60-day injured list Tuesday and outrighted him to Triple-A Buffalo.

Sosa no longer possesses a spot on the Blue Jays' 40-man roster, but he'll remain in the organization at Buffalo. The 26-year-old infielder last played for the Blue Jays in late May, as he's been working his way back from a right wrist contusion.

  • Zach McKinstry RF | DET

Tigers' Zach McKinstry: Tallies three hits in win

McKinstry went 3-for-4 with a walk, a double, an RBI and a run scored in Monday's 8-5 win over the Pirates.

McKinstry matched his season high with the three hits, and both of those performances have come this month. After a rough start to the year, the utility player has found his groove in August with a .326/.442/.419 slash line across 15 games. McKinstry's defensive versatility should keep him in the lineup most days, and he's starting to deliver some production for fantasy managers.

  • Hao Yu Lee 2B | DET

Tigers' Hao-Yu Lee: Reaches five times in win

Lee went 3-for-3 with two walks, two RBI and a run scored in Monday's 8-5 win over the Pirates.

Lee set a new season high with three hits and also set a season high by reaching base five times. The rookie infielder hasn't quite found an everyday role with the Tigers, but he's performed well when given an opportunity with a .275 batting average and .737 OPS. If Detroit falls out of playoff contention down the stretch, Lee could see his role grow if the team prioritizes its younger players.

  • Nick Sogard 2B | BOS

Red Sox's Nick Sogard: Cracks two doubles Monday

Sogard went 2-for-5 with two doubles, an RBI and a run scored during the Red Sox's 11-1 win over the Diamondbacks on Monday.

Sogard helped the Red Sox jump out to an early lead with an RBI double in the second inning before coming home to score in the fourth on a double from Ceddanne Rafaela. It's the second time this season that Sogard has cracked two doubles in a game, and he's settled into an everyday role at second base with trade deadline acquisition Curtis Mead (wrist) on the injured list. Sogard is slashing .248/.355/.333 with six RBI and eight extra-base hits across 126 plate appearances this season.

  • Athletics' Joshua Kuroda-Grauer: Ready for light activities

The Athletics announced Monday that Kuroda-Grauer (testicle) has resumed taking part in light, non-impact activities, Jason Burke of Roundtable.io reports.

Kuroda-Grauer will be eased back into baseball-related workouts after he required surgery July 21 to address a ruptured testicle, an injury he suffered a day earlier when he fouled a ball off of himself. The Athletics aren't putting a timeline on Kuroda-Grauer's return from the injured list, but since he hasn't yet begun a hitting, running or fielding progression, he doesn't appear on track to make it back from the shelf before the end of August.

  • Royals' Michael Massey: Homers in three-hit effort

Massey went 3-for-4 with a solo home run in Sunday's 3-0 win over the Angels.

Massey collected a trio of hits, including a sizzling solo shot to open the scoring in the fourth inning. Sunday marked the fifth time this year the second baseman has logged three hits, with two of those performances coming in this road series against the Angels. Overall, he's slashing .271/.301/.442 with 11 homers, 42 RBI, 42 runs and two stolen bases across 104 contests.
