  • David Hamilton SS | BOS

Red Sox's David Hamilton: Recall made official

The Red Sox recalled Hamilton from Triple-A Worcester on Thursday.

Hamilton is drawing the start at second base Thursday versus the Yankees and could see semi-regular action there if the Red Sox opt to use Ceddanne Rafaela as a full-time outfielder following the injury to Wilyer Abreu (calf). The speedy Hamilton has slashed only .174/.227/.265 in 69 games with the big club this season, though he does have 17 stolen bases in 21 attempts.

  • Marcus Semien 2B | NYM

Rangers' Marcus Semien: Exits game with injury

Semien was removed from Thursday's game in Kansas City during the third inning due to an undisclosed injury, Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News reports.

Semien recently dealt with a wrist issue, but it's not clear whether that's the injury that forced his exit Thursday. The Rangers should have more information on the second baseman soon.

  • Jeff McNeil 2B | ATH

Mets' Jeff McNeil: Nursing sore shoulder

McNeil is not in Thursday's lineup versus the Nationals due to right shoulder soreness, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.

It's something that's been bothering McNeil since last week and is mostly an issue while throwing. He could be ready to return to action as soon as Friday in Atlanta, but he might be limited to designated-hitter duty for a while. McNeil is 9-for-21 at the plate over his last five games, so the shoulder doesn't seem to be a problem in the batter's box.

  • Buddy Kennedy 2B | LAD

Dodgers' Buddy Kennedy: Heading back to bench Thursday

Kennedy is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Rockies, Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register reports.

After starting at third base in each of the last four games while going 1-for-13 at the dish, Kennedy will cede the hot corner to Alex Freeland for the series finale in Colorado. The right-handed-hitting Kennedy could occupy the short side of a platoon at third base with the switch-hitting Freeland until the Dodgers get one of their four injured infielders (Max Muncy, Hyeseong Kim, Tommy Edman and Enrique Hernandez) back from the shelf.

  • Jeff McNeil 2B | ATH

Mets' Jeff McNeil: Exiting starting nine

McNeil is absent from the lineup for Thursday's contest versus the Nationals.

McNeil is 9-for-21 at the dish over his last five games, but he'll get a day off in Thursday's matinee against southpaw MacKenzie Gore and the Nationals. Brett Baty will start at second base and Starling Marte will serve as the Mets' designated hitter in the series finale.

  • Willi Castro RF | CHC

Cubs' Willi Castro: Filling in for resting Shaw

Castro will start at third base and bat seventh in Thursday's game against the Brewers.

Castro doesn't have a clear path to an everyday role in Chicago, but his versatility will allow him to stick in the lineup for the third time in five games. Though Castro will be filling in Thursday for a resting Matt Shaw, the latter player has performed well since the All-Star break and seems to be strengthening his grip on a regular spot in the starting nine.

  • David Hamilton SS | BOS

Red Sox's David Hamilton: Set to be recalled

The Red Sox will recall Hamilton from Triple-A Worcester prior to Thursday's contest against the Yankees, Jen McCaffrey of The Athletic reports.

He'll take the roster spot vacated by Abraham Toro, who will be designated for assignment. Hamilton has slashed only .174/.227/.265 in 69 games with the big club this season, but he's a better fit for Boston's bench than Toro.

  • Adam Frazier 2B | KC

Royals' Adam Frazier: Stepping out of lineup Thursday

Frazier is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Rangers.

The left-handed-hitting Frazier had started in each of the Royals' last 10 games while occupying four different spots (designated hitter, second base, third base and left field), but he'll take a seat for the series finale as Texas sends a lefty (Patrick Corbin) to the bump. Kansas City could get another impact bat in Jac Caglianone (hamstring) back from the injured list this weekend, but Frazier's versatility and solid production since being acquired from the Pirates over the All-Star break (.301/.333/.434 slash line in 26 games) should allow him to retain a near-everyday role.

  • Luis Urias 2B | ATH

    Athletics' Luis Urias: Resting Thursday

Urias is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Twins.

He'll give way to Max Schuemann at second base for the series finale after occupying the keystone in each of the previous three contests. Urias has received steady playing time in August but hasn't provided much production, hitting just .233 with no home runs or steals, four RBI and two runs through 13 games this month.

  • Mauricio Dubon 2B | ATL

Astros' Mauricio Dubon: Slugs seventh homer

Dubon went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run Wednesday against the Tigers.

Dubon has started five of the last six games and showcased his versatility, playing first base, second base, shortstop and left field. He hadn't produced much offensively prior to Wednesday's home run during that stretch, going only 2-for-11 with an RBI and a run scored. Dubon changed his fortunes with a two-run blast in the fourth inning, his seventh of the season.
