Shay Whitcomb 3B | SF
Giants' Shay Whitcomb: On bench Sunday
Whitcomb is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Mets.
The Giants will hold Whitcomb out of the lineup for the second time in the series and will go with Osleivis Basabe at third base. Despite getting ample playing time since being recalled from Triple-A Sacramento on Aug. 24, Whitcomb has gone just 5-for-38 (.132 average) with one home run, three RBI and two runs over 13 games.

Nick Yorke 3B | PIT
Pirates' Nick Yorke: Sent to Triple-A
The Pirates optioned Yorke to Triple-A Indianapolis on Sunday.
The 24-year-old started Saturday against Angels southpaw Yusei Kikuchi, going 0-for-1 with a walk before being replaced by a pinch hitter. Yorke collected four hits with a double, a stolen base and six RBI in his first two games after being called up in mid-August, but he's gone 3-for-20 across the ensuing 11 contests and has now lost his place on the MLB roster. Ronny Simon was recalled from Indianapolis in a corresponding move.

Ke'Bryan Hayes 3B | CIN
Reds' Ke'Bryan Hayes: Set to begin running
Hayes will test out his strained left groin by running the bases in Cincinnati on Sunday, MLB.com reports.
Hayes is eligible for activation at any point after landing on the 10-day injured list Aug. 28, but it's unclear how soon he might rejoin the Reds. The defensive-minded third baseman had been one of the majors' worst-performing hitters in 2026 prior to landing on the shelf, slashing just .153/.213/.250 with five home runs, one stolen base, 19 runs and eight RBI across 211 plate appearances.

Christian Koss SS | SF
Giants' Christian Koss: Goes yard twice in Saturday's win
Koss went 2-for-4 with two home runs and three RBI in Saturday's 9-5 win over the Mets.
Both homers came off Zac Thornton, with Koss belting a two-run shot in the third inning and a solo blast in the fifth. The shortstop has flipped the switch at the plate in September -- he entered the month with a .498 OPS in 47 big-league contests, but over the last five games he's gone 6-for-19 (.316) with two homers, a walk, four RBI and eight runs.

Manny Machado 3B | SD
Padres' Manny Machado: Goes deep for team's lone run
Machado went 1-for-2 with a solo home run and two walks in a loss to the Yankees on Saturday.
San Diego managed just three hits as a team, and the club's only run came on Machado's fourth-inning solo blast. The long ball snapped a 13-game homerless stretch for the veteran slugger, who had also gone deep just once across his previous 34 contests. Machado's current .717 OPS is on pace to be the lowest mark of his long career, though he's still provided some decent counting stats with 25 homers, 70 runs and 76 RBI through 138 contests. He's now reached the 25-homer mark in every season since 2015 with the exception of the pandemic-shortened 2020 campaign.

Max Muncy 3B | LAD
Dodgers' Max Muncy: Removal from lineup due to illness
Muncy was scratched from Saturday's lineup against the Nationals due to an illness.
Muncy was originally slated to start at third base but was removed from the starting nine a few hours before game time, with Enrique Hernandez penciled in at the hot corner in his place. Given that the reason for Muncy's scratch was deemed to be an illness, he should be considered day-to-day.

Max Muncy 3B | LAD
Dodgers' Max Muncy: Scratched from Saturday's lineup
Muncy was a late scratch from the Dodgers' lineup for Saturday's game versus Washington for unspecified reasons.
Muncy was originally in Saturday's lineup, as was Dalton Rushing, but both players were scratched about two hours ahead of the start of the game. The Dodgers will presumably provide a reason for the change in short order. Enrique Hernandez is covering third base and batting ninth in Muncy's stead Saturday.

Vimael Machin 3B | COL
Rockies' Vimael Machin: Contract selected
The Rockies selected Machin's contract from Triple-A Albuquerque on Saturday.
With Willi Castro (plantar fasciitis) moving to the injured list Saturday, Machin will join the parent club to bolster Colorado's infield depth. The 32-year-old has spent the entire season at Albuquerque, slashing .290/.371/.445 with 12 homers, 73 RBI and 61 runs scored across 488 plate appearances.

Alex Bregman 3B | CHC
Cubs' Alex Bregman: Extends hitting streak Friday
Bregman went 2-for-4 with a walk and a run scored in Friday's 6-1 win over the Marlins.
The veteran third baseman extended his hitting streak to eight games and continued a torrid stretch of baseball that dates back farther. Since the beginning of August, Bregman is slashing .308/.372/.662 with 13 home runs and 34 RBI across 32 games. With the hot stretch, Bregman now has his fifth career season with at least 20 homers and 80 RBI, and his first such campaign since he was with the Astros in 2023.

Brady House 3B | WAS
Nationals' Brady House: Swipes bag in loss
House went 2-for-4 with a double, a stolen base and a run scored in Friday's 5-3 loss to the Dodgers.
House was one of three Nationals with multiple hits in the contest. He has hit safely in nine of his last 12 games, going 12-for-38 (.316) with 10 RBI in that span. The third baseman is batting .246 with a .717 OPS, 10 home runs, three steals, 41 RBI, 36 runs scored and 14 doubles over 77 contests this season. House will likely continue to see the majority of the time at third base to close out 2026.
