  • Hunter Goodman RF | COL

Rockies' Hunter Goodman: Resting up Thursday

Goodman is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Astros.

Braxton Fulford will get the nod behind the plate while Goodman gets some rest in a day game after a night game. Goodman has stayed productive in August in the midst of his breakout season, slashing .247/.310/.558 with seven home runs, 16 RBI, and 12 runs through 22 games on the month.

  • Henry Davis RF | PIT

Pirates' Henry Davis: Taking seat Thursday

Davis is absent from the lineup for Thursday's contest in St. Louis.

Davis started at catcher in each of the previous two games, so he'll get some rest during Thursday's matinee. Joey Bart is behind the dish and batting sixth for the Pirates.

  • Pedro Pages C | STL

Cardinals' Pedro Pages: Out for afternoon game

Pages is not in the lineup for Thursday's game against the Pirates.

Pages started at catcher in the Cardinals' 2-1 loss Wednesday's night, so he'll get a breather for Thursday's matinee. Yohel Pozo will fill in behind the plate and bat ninth for the Cardinals in the series finale.

  • Mets' Francisco Alvarez: Exits rehab game

Alvarez was removed from a rehab game at Triple-A Syracuse on Wednesday after getting hit on the left hand by a pitch, Pat Ragazzo of SI.com reports.

The good news is that Alvarez was hit on the opposite hand from his right thumb, which has kept him on the injured list since last Tuesday. However, the young backstop's latest injury may push his return to New York back a few days. An updated timeline should come once the team gets a chance to examine him further.

  • Will Smith C | LAD

Dodgers' Will Smith: Not in Wednesday's lineup

Smith is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Reds, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports.

Smith started the first two games of the series and will sit for the finale after going 1-for-6 with two walks, a solo homer and an additional run scored. Dalton Rushing will start behind the plate and bat eighth versus Cincinnati lefty Nick Lodolo.

  • C.J. Stubbs C | WAS

Nationals' C.J. Stubbs: Set to join big club

The Nationals plan to promote Stubbs from Triple-A Rochester ahead of Friday's game against the Rays, Andrew Golden of The Washington Post reports.

The 28-year-old is on the cusp of his first look in the majors after No. 2 catcher Drew Millas suffered a fractured and dislocated finger Wednesday. Stubbs has a .148/.279/.240 slash line between the Double-A and Triple-A levels this season and isn't likely to see much playing time as the backup to Riley Adams.

  • Giants' Patrick Bailey: Taking seat Wednesday

Bailey is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Cubs, Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Bailey started Tuesday's series opener and went 0-for-3 with a strikeout, dropping his slash line in August to .227/.271/.288 through 21 games. Andrew Knizner will step in behind the plate Wednesday to catch for lefty Carson Whisenhunt.

  • Diamondbacks' Gabriel Moreno: Idle Wednesday

Moreno isn't in the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Brewers.

Moreno has gone 6-for-16 with two homers, seven RBI and four runs scored in four games since returning from the injured list. He'll get a chance to rest his legs Wednesday while James McCann catches for starter Ryne Nelson and bats sixth.

  • Luis Torrens DH | NYM

Mets' Luis Torrens: Receiving breather Wednesday

Torrens is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Phillies.

Torrens will receive Wednesday off after he had started behind the plate in each of the Mets' last three contests while going 4-for-11 with a home run, a double, five RBI and three runs. Hayden Senger will spell Torrens behind the dish.

  • Keibert Ruiz C | WAS

Nationals' Keibert Ruiz: Takes part in BP

Ruiz remains in the concussion protocol but resumed taking swings in batting practice last week, MLB.com reports.

The Nationals haven't provided many updates on Ruiz's status since he was placed on the 7-day injured list July 8, but Bobby Blanco of MASNSports.com reported last Thursday that the 27-year-old still hoped to get cleared and play again later this season. Since he's been out for more than seven weeks, Ruiz will likely require at least a few rehab contests once he gets the green light for game action before being activated from the IL. Riley Adams has been the team's starting catcher in Ruiz's absence, but the Nats will need a new backup after Drew Millas suffered a fractured and dislocated left index finger in Wednesday's game against the Yankees.
