Sam Hentges RP | SF
Giants' Sam Hentges: Throws scoreless inning in rehab game
Hentges (forearm) threw a scoreless inning while striking out two in Triple-A Sacramento's 6-4 loss to Reno on Friday.
Hentges was placed on the 15-day injured list Aug. 30 (retroactive to Aug. 27) due to a left forearm strain. The southpaw began a rehab assignment with Sacramento on Friday, throwing nine of his 14 pitches for strikes. He's running out of time to return to the big leagues this season, as San Francisco has already been eliminated from postseason contention.

Peter Strzelecki RP | STL
Cardinals' Peter Strzelecki: Outrighted to Triple-A
The Cardinals outrighted Strzelecki to Triple-A Memphis on Friday.
Strzelecki had been removed from the 40-man roster earlier this week and has since passed through waivers. Having been outrighted previously, the 31-year-old has the ability to decline the assignment and become a free agent. Strzelecki has collected a 5.79 ERA and 8:6 K:BB over 14 frames in the majors this season.

Trevor Megill RP | MIL
Brewers' Trevor Megill: Blows save but pockets win Friday
Megill (3-3) blew the save but picked up the win in Friday's 6-5 extra-inning victory over the Orioles, giving up two runs on two hits in the ninth inning. He struck out one without walking a batter.
The Brewers took a 5-3 lead in the top of the ninth but Megill couldn't make it stick, giving up a single and a double to begin the frame followed by back-to-back sacrifice flies, but the right-hander was still the pitcher of record when his team reclaimed the lead for good in the top of the 10th. It was Megill's first blown save since June 5 and just his third of the year in 31 chances, but he's fading to end the regular season, getting tagged for runs in three of seven September appearances while compiling a 7.11 ERA, 1.58 WHIP and 9:1 K:BB in 6.1 innings.

Jordan Romano RP | COL
Rockies' Jordan Romano: Takes fourth loss
Romano (0-4) allowed one earned run on two hits and struck out one batter across one inning to take the loss to the Mariners on Friday.
Romano entered the game with the score tied at 4-4, but he served up a leadoff home run to Lazaro Montes. Romano has had limited save chances in recent weeks, as the Rockies have just one win in their last 12 games, but he has allowed at least one earned run in three of his seven September appearances. Colorado hasn't shown any sign of moving Romano out of the closer role, but he isn't in a great position to make a strong fantasy impact down the stretch.

Gregory Soto RP | PIT
Pirates' Gregory Soto: Nabs 15th save
Soto gave up a hit and struck out two in a scoreless ninth inning Friday to record his 15th save of the season in an 8-5 win over the Royals.
Mason Montgomery threw 29 pitches Thursday, so Soto got his old job back for a night as he picked up his first save since Aug. 1. Soto remains prone to meltdowns, and while he's blanked the opposition in five of his seven September appearances, he still has a 10.13 ERA in 5.1 innings on the month. On the season, the veteran southpaw has a 3.78 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 76:28 K:BB through 64.1 frames with six wins and 13 holds in addition to his saves.

Emilio Pagan RP | CIN
Reds' Emilio Pagan: Notches 24th save
Pagan walked one and struck out one in a scoreless ninth inning Friday to record his 24th save of the season in a 6-4 win over the Cubs.
The veteran closer is closing out 2026 on a high note. Pagan hasn't been scored upon in seven straight appearances and hasn't blown a save since returning from the IL at the beginning of July, posting a 2.03 ERA, 0.83 WHIP and 32:5 K:BB over his last 26.2 innings with three wins and 18 saves.

Dedniel Nunez RP | NYM
Mets' Dedniel Nunez: Records first save since 2024
Nunez earned the save in Friday's 6-3 win over Philadelphia, tossing 1.1 scoreless frames. He did not record a walk or a strikeout.
Nunez was brought out of the bullpen with two outs in the eighth inning and needed only 11 pitches (seven strikes) to secure the win for the Mets. It was his first save of the season and the second of his major-league career, with his first coming during the 2024 season. Kodai Senga wasn't brought out for the save chance despite not having pitched since Tuesday, when he blew a save chance against the Orioles, so perhaps Nunez could get a couple more save chances before the 2026 campaign ends. Nunez has a 3.94 ERA and 1.06 WHIP across 16 innings this season.

Tim Mayza RP | PHI
Phillies' Tim Mayza: Gives up three runs, takes loss as opener
Mayza (3-4) was tagged with the loss against the Mets on Friday, allowing three runs on three hits and one walk in one-third of an inning.
Mayza was given the nod to serve as Friday's opener after enjoying success in his last start against Atlanta this past Saturday, when he struck out four batters across three scoreless innings. He couldn't carry that momentum over against the Mets, however. This outing inflated his stats to a 3.46 ERA and 1.11 WHIP across 65 innings this season. Despite the poor outing, the Phillies may call on Mayza to serve as an opener one more time before the end of the regular season in order to protect the rotation for the playoffs.

Anthony Bender RP | MIA
Marlins' Anthony Bender: Slated for surgery
Bender will undergo surgery to address the stress reaction in his right shin, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.
Bender was never able to properly rehab his injury after landing on the injured list in late June, so he'll now opt for the surgical route. The Marlins will likely have more information regarding his recovery timeline following his procedure.
