Dejean-Jones died early Saturday morning in Dallas after suffering a gunshot wound to the abdomen, Sarah Mervosh of The Dallas Morning News reports.
According to the report, a man shot Dejean-Jones in self-defense after the Pelicans guard "kicked open the front door" of the man's apartment at 3:20 a.m. Dejean-Jones was able to run out of the apartment, but ended up collapsing and was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead after suffering extensive blood loss. Undrafted out of Iowa State, Dejean-Jones, 23, overcame the odds to earn a spot on the Pelicans roster in January following a stint in the D-League. He went on to play in 14 games (starting in 11), and averaged 5.6 points and 3.4 rebounds per game before suffering a season-ending wrist injury. It's a tragic day for the Pelicans and the NBA family.
