Zeller had eight points (3-7 FG, 2-2 FT), eight rebounds, two assists, and one steal in 23 minutes during Friday's 120-88 win over the Magic. Zeller was solid but not spectacular, as per usual. While he has re-claimed the starting spot that former Hornet Dwight Howard had last year, Zeller typically doesn't see the type of minutes he'd need to make him valuable outside of deeper leagues.
Zeller will start at center during Tuesday's preseason game against the Heat, Rick Bonnell of The Charlotte Observer reports. Zeller got Sunday's game off for rest, allowing Willy Hernangomez to draw the start. During the preseason opener, Zeller posted 13 points, seven boards and three blocks in 18 minutes.
Zeller will sit out Sunday's preseason matchup against the Celtics for rest. The Hornets are simply trying to keep their veterans healthy ahead of the regular season. Joining Zeller on the sidelines will be Tony Parker and Marvin Williams. Look for the big man to rejoin the lineup ahead of Tuesday's exhibition with the Heat.
Zeller totaled 13 points (5-10 FG, 1-1 3Pt, 2-4 FT), seven rebounds and three blocks in 18 minutes during Friday's 104-97 preseason victory over the Celtics. Zeller did his chances of starting the season as the Hornets primary big man no harm Friday with a solid performance on both ends of the floor. He is going to be battling with Willy Hernangomez for the starting role and although he appears the favorite at this stage, It could end up being a timeshare which hurts both their values in the short term.
Zeller will start Friday's preseason game against the Celtics. Zeller is the favorite to be the Hornets' starting center this season, but coach James Borrego indicated earlier in the offseason that nothing is set in stone. Expect the veteran to primary compete with Willy Hernangomez for the spot during the exhibition season.
