Smallman was reassigned to AHL Hershey on Saturday.
Smallman was a healthy scratch in all three games over the past week. The 29-year-old has yet to make his NHL debut. Smallman had two goals and an assist in six AHL games before his recall. The Capitals activated Ethen Frank (upper body) from injured reserve in a corresponding move.
