Dzingel signed a two-year, $6.75 million contract with the Hurricanes on Friday. Dzingel had his best season yet as a pro in 2018-19, setting career highs in goals (26), assists (30), shots on goal (159) and game-winning goals (5) in 78 games split between the Senators and Blue Jackets. The 27-year-old should step into a middle-six role for Carolina in 2019-20, and could threaten the 50-point mark for a second straight campaign if he's able to lock down a spot on one of the Hurricanes' power-play units.
Dzingel scored his first goal of the postseason in Saturday's 4-3 loss to Boston, which now leads the series 3-2. Dzingel had a fantastic season, but drew the ire of coach John Tortorella earlier in the series. He even found himself scratched. Dzingel has struggled in playoff matchups in the past, too -- he has just four points in 23 career games. Don't look here for fantasy help right now.
Dzingel isn't in the lineup for Saturday's Game 2 in Boston, Dan Rosen of NHL.com reports. No injury has been mentioned in relation to Dzingel's absence, suggesting that coach John Tortorella is simply making him a healthy scratch. The trade deadline acquisition from Ottawa hasn't been earning much run in the playoffs, skating no more than 13:03 in any playoff game so far despite scoring 26 goals and 56 points in the regular season. Alexander Wennberg is taking over Dzingel's usual spot on the second line.
Dzingel notched two assists in Sunday's 4-0 win over the Sabres. The 27-year-old now has three goals and 11 points in 18 games since being acquired by the Jackets at the trade deadline. Dzingel continues to see steady top-six minutes in Columbus, giving him an opportunity to chip in a bit more production before the end of the regular season.
Dzingel scored his 24th goal of the season in Sunday's 5-0 win over the Canucks. With the tally, Dzingel has a new career high in goals. His scoring rate has decreased since being traded to Columbus, with eight points in 14 games compared to the 44 he had in 57 contests with Ottawa, giving him 52 points in 71 contests overall.
