Montour signed a one-year, $3.85 million contract with the Sabres on Saturday, Lance Lysowski of The Buffalo News reports. Montour was a restricted free agent, and he's taking a bridge deal to become an unrestricted free agent after the coming season. The 26-year-old doesn't light up the stat sheet, but he consistently logs top-four minutes against some of the opponents' best players. He reached his career high in points back in the 2017-18 season, when he notched 32 points with the Ducks, but he hasn't surpassed 25 points in a season since then. Montour shouldn't be on most fantasy radars at this time.
Montour produced a helper in Friday's 4-2 loss to the Golden Knights. The 25-year-old defenseman has recorded five points in his last five games after a lengthy slump. Montour has 18 points, 82 shots, 56 hits, 47 blocked shots and a plus-17 rating in 49 appearances. He's one of the Sabres' more reliable defenders, but that typically comes at the expense of his offense.
Montour scored a pair of goals in Tuesday's 7-4 loss to Ottawa, adding an assist to finish with three points. The Sabres' top-pairing defenseman scored the first two goals of Tuesday's game before adding an assist on Kyle Okposo's seventh goal of the campaign, scored in the second period. Entering play, Montour had been held without a point in seven straight games (eight if you count the one game before his lower-body injury). Following his first multi-point outing of 2019-20, Montour has 16 points on the season, in 45 games played.
Montour (lower body) is expected to play Tuesday versus the Avalanche, Lance Lysowski of The Buffalo News reports. Montour missed Saturday's game against the Blue Jackets despite taking warmups, and he was able to practice Monday as well. The 25-year-old will re-enter the lineup and could have a heightened role because Rasmus Dahlin (upper body) will sit out.
Montour (lower body) will sit out of Saturday's game versus the Blue Jackets. Montour took warmups and was expected to play, but he'll watch from the press box while Lawrence Pilut slots in. The 25-year-old Montour has produced 13 points through 37 games, and he'll aim to get back in the lineup Tuesday versus Colorado.
