Is the beast from the East or will the West be best? That's the question on Friday when the country's top two-year-olds square off in the 2021 Breeders' Cup Juvenile at Del Mar. The Bob Baffert-trained Corniche has won both of his starts impressively and is the 5-2 favorite in the 11-horse 2021 Breeders' Cup Juvenile field after Jack Christopher scratched.

The winner of Friday's contest inherits the role of early 2022 Kentucky Derby favorite. Post time for the $2 million race is 7:50 p.m. ET. With an accomplished field ready to enter the starting gate on Friday, you'll want to see how handicapping champion Jonathon Kinchen has broken down the race.

Kinchen is one of the nation's most successful and recognizable horseplayers. An analyst for Fox Sports' "America's Day at the Races," Kinchen won the National Horseplayers Championship Tour in 2015, a demanding, yearlong series of handicapping events across the country. At last year's Breeders' Cup, Kinchen finished second out of 418 contestants in the prestigious Breeders' Cup Betting Challenge, which earned him $215,000 in prize money. After factoring in his profit during the 14 Breeders' Cup races, he took home more than $366,000 on the day.

Anyone who has followed him is up big.

Now, Kinchen has handicapped the 2021 Breeders' Cup Juvenile lineup, made his picks and constructed his bets. You can only see them here.

Top 2021 Breeders' Cup Juvenile predictions

One surprise: Kinchen is completely tossing the 5-2 second choice Corniche, even though he arguably is the West Coast's top contender. A son of elite sire Quality Road, Corniche won his debut at Del Mar, winning a 5 1/2-furlong sprint by 4 1/4 lengths. He followed that victory with a 3 1/4-length win in the American Pharoah Stakes at Santa Anita.

However, arguably no horse was disadvantaged more by Friday's post draw than Corniche. From the far outside post, he must use his early speed or risk getting caught wide around the first turn. Kinchen prefers three horses over Corniche and will not use him in any wagers.

How to make 2021 Breeders' Cup Juvenile picks

Kinchen told SportsLine he'd bet "every dollar he has" on his top pick. Kinchen is also high on a double-digit long shot who "lost a lot of ground" in his last race and would net any backer a huge payday. Kinchen is including these horses in his wagering, and so should you. He's sharing this analysis at SportsLine.
