Cole Hammer is 15 years old. On Thursday, he officially became the third-youngest competitor at the US Open -- ever. Prior to his first shot of the tournament, Hammer took a moment to gather himself before beginning probably the most challenging test of his life.
And, as expected, Hammer was clearly emotional, showing signs of tearing up.

Hammer's opening drive left him unhappy with the result, but according to analysts on the scene, it really wasn't as bad as he made it out to be. Furthermore, Hammer appeared to keep his composure.
Cole Hammer doesn't like his opening tee shot, but for 15 yr old h.s. soph playing in U.S. Open looked pretty good from here.

Even if Hammer didn't walk away from his first shot satisfied, he probably won't be upset about the aftermath. In his first hole ever at the US Open, Hammer just missed out on a birdie, but still managed to make par.
Again, this kid is 15 years old.
