In 2013, Aledo (Texas) did something that no other high school football team had ever done — it scored over 1,000 points in a season.
With 1,023 points in 16 games, Aledo became the first high school team to reach the plateau. However, Aledo also did something that many other Texas teams had done before — it led the nation in scoring.
Research by MaxPreps shows that Texas has been responsible for 65 of the 109 teams that have led the nation in scoring since 1911. The reason for the Lone Star State's dominance is simple: Texas has held state playoffs since the early 1920s. ...
