The Cubs have signed free agent second baseman Emilio Bonifacio, who had cleared waivers this week after his release from Kansas City. His signing to a minor league contract endangers the starting position of 2013 disappointment Darwin Barney.
Bonifacio has also regressed since a fine season in 2011. He bottomed out last year, batting just .243 with 31 RBI and a whopping 103 strikeouts in 420 at-bats. He did rack up 28 stolen bases.
