Nationals outfielder Denard Span has had trouble getting going this season, but found a spark Tuesday, in a 9-4 win over the Reds.
Span, who got a vote of confidence from manager Matt Williams before the game, made an impact in the leadoff spot. He reached base five times in as many at-bats, with three singles and a pair of doubles. Span also scored twice and drove in two runs in the win, while adding his sixth stolen base of the season.
Span raised his average more than 20 points with the five-hit performance, and is now hitting .263/.308/.363 in 160 at-bats.
