Diamondbacks veteran catcher Gerald Laird was activated off of the 60-day disabled list on Thursday. Laird was subsequently desginated for assignment.
Laird has played all of one game--two at-bats--in 2015, his first season with Arizona. He has been on the DL with a back injury since early April.
But with the D-Backs already carrying three catchers (Jarrod Saltalamacchia, Welington Castillo and Oscar Hernandez), Laird was squeezed out of a job in Arizona.
Laird is a 13-year veteran and has spent time with five different clubs during his career.
