Chase Headley sees himself as a $10 million player.

The Padres think the right number is closer to $7 million.

It's no surprise then that Headley and the Padres couldn't reach an agreement on a 2013 contract, or that there was a big gap when they filed their numbers for salary arbitration on Friday.

Headley filed at $10.3 million, according to figures obtained by CBSSports.com. The Padres countered at $7.075 million. If the two sides still can't reach an agreement, an arbitrator will decide between the two numbers.
