Jeff Mathis plays big offensive role in win

Jeff Mathis hit a home run, then lined a tiebreaking double in the eighth inning that bounced off Giants center fielder Andres Torres and sent the Marlins to a 6-5 win Sunday. With one out, Mathis hit a liner to left-center and the ball dropped in front of Torres' dive and caromed off him.

Mathis finished 2 for 3 with two RBI and one walk. He has three home runs. Mathis entered play Sunday mired in a 4-for-35 slump in 10 August games.
