Mathis had his contract selected by Atlanta on Sunday.
The 38-year-old joined the club on a minor-league deal in late March after being let go by the Phillies, and he'll now receive an opportunity in the majors. Mathis should split time behind the plate with William Contreras after Travis d'Arnaud (thumb) and Alex Jackson (hamstring) landed on the injured list.
