Thanks to Uni Watch, we now have a look at what the Dodgers' Independence Day hats will look like this year and it's likely a preview of what the rest of the 29 hats on the fourth of July will resemble.

Here's a look:

We have two varying opinions here.

First up: David Brown.

Major League Baseball needs to stop desecrating the U.S. flag by trying to integrate it so ostentatiously into team caps for Independence Day. Conversely, the Los Angeles Dodgers should not mess with their classic logo by losing it in a tacky field of stars and stripes. A pair of respected icons such as these should not mix as they do.
Don’t try to reinvent the wheel artistically; just put an actual flag on the sides of the caps. Happy Fourth of July. Because every design MLB approves looks like what passes for art at a gas station. It’s as though the only way to show patriotism is to buy where you also would buy ball fake bull testicles for your trailer hitch. It’s fine for some people, but not everyone is a Bubba. Must people respect the flag like they might Aerosmith, Lynyrd Skynyrd, or their custom van, or could we try to make it something deeper?
It’s great that MLB sends proceeds from the holiday caps -- Memorial Day also gets a special cap, for example -- to organizations that serve troops returning from service. That doesn’t need to stop. But they can stop selling ugly caps. It’s been 39 years since Rick Monday saved an American flag from being burned by a couple of creeps at Dodger Stadium. It always will be the ugliest incident involving the flag at a major league ballpark. At least these caps can’t ever be worse than that.

Next opinion: Matt Snyder.

It's only one day, so I'm OK with being as gaudy as possible. I'm all for the excess on our nation's birthday because that's what many of us do. We want to see the biggest fireworks displays, have ridiculous cookouts and overconsume any beverage of choice. It's one of the most fun days of the year for many of us and this is a tradition.

In light of that, why not be a bit excessive with the hats? Again, it's only one day.

I also don't think it desecrates the flag because that's not an actual flag. It's drawings of elements from Old Glory. I would like the chance to build up a Strawman here, though, and offer up that no matter what design baseball would come up with, people would complain. If something is new or different, cue the complaints. Like clockwork. Not every single temporary change has to be bad.

Are the hats tacky or cheesey? Probably. Who cares, though? Why not just embrace the ridiculous for one day while celebrating like 'Mericans? I find that more fun and I like fun.

So what say you? Good or bad?
