Padres place RP Dale Thayer on DL with shoulder issue

The Padres have placed veteran reliever Dale Thayer on the 15-day disabled list with a strained right shoulder. They have bought a week, however - the move is retroactive to June 17.

The 34-year-old Thayer has not pitched since June 16. He managed nine straight scoreless appearances before giving up four runs in 2 2/3 innings over his last three opportunities.
