Phillies pitcher Cliff Lee was unable to throw Sunday or Monday, and was placed on the 60-day disabled list with a left forearm strain -- the same injury that had the veteran left-hander on the shelf twice last season. He will be shut down indefinitely, and brought back to Philadelphia periodically to be evaluated.

Although Lee was recommended by doctors to have surgery, he and the Phillies have mutually decided to try for the third time to take a non-surgical approach to his rehab, with the hopes to prolong his career. Surgery would keep the 36-year-old out for the entirety of the season, and likely end his career.
