The Red Sox are considering dealing pitcher Josh Beckett, according to WEEI’s Rob Bradford.

The team has fielded a few calls, but nothing is close. Bradford categorized the talks as “exercises in kicking the tires.”

The Rangers are in the market for a starter, but they do not have interest in Beckett. Beckett does have 10/5 rights, so he would have to approve a deal to any team.

In 17 starts this season, Beckett has compiled a 4.57 ERA. His 3.52 FIP indicates that he could be a bounce-back candidate, but his strikeout rate has dropped this season. Beckett also is under contract for two more seasons. He’s set to earn $15.75 million over two seasons.
